Powered Air Purifying Helmet Respirators For use in Agricultural settings.

Modern agricultural facilities today, for dairy, poultry and hog have moved toward much more indoor and intensive animal housing. Making the need for respirator, protection greater for those personnel who are in such facilities.

 

Personnel working with grain or feed may be exposed to organic dust toxic syndrome (ODTS), sometimes called grain fever. At first this feels like the flu and the person will experience exhaustion aching muscles, pain, fatigue and difficulty breathing.

 

“Farmers Lung” or exposure to actinomycete spores is caused by hay that has not dried properly, heat builds up encouraging the growth of mold. When moldy hay is disturbed, dust is created that may contain the actinomycete spores. Unprotected personnel may breath in these spores. The symptoms of “Farmers Lung” are like the flu. There are two stages. An acute reaction will clear up in 48 hours, and a chronic reaction can involve permanent damage to the respiratory system.

 

The use of a respirator like the Prof 88 will help reduce the occurrence of ODTS and exposure to “Farmers Lung”.

  • The K80E helmets are made of fiberglass with a polyurethane coating.
